Alexa is getting smarter, but one of the best things you can do to make the voice assistant even smarter is to enter your address.

Sure, we understand that you may not want to share everything with Amazon, but this is some basic information that can allow your Alexa-enabled device to provide the most accurate answers and display the correct time. If you know exactly where you live, your Amazon Echo It can, for example, display the weather and directions adjusted to your environment.

So, because it's so vital to a good Alexa experience, we've detailed exactly how to change the location of an Alexa device. With this change, we will also look at whether this is the only way to change the time on your speaker.

How to change location

To enter or change your address, do the following:

1. Open the Alexa app and tap the 'Devices' section at the bottom right of the screen.

2. Touch the Echo and Alexa and choose the one you want to change.

3. Scroll down and press Device location.

4. Select your country at the top, then enter your home address.

Additionally, because the location is specified for each device, not centrally in your account, changing the location of one device will not change the location of the others. If you want to change all of them, you will need to perform the above procedure for each of them.

If you have an Echo Show or Spot

If you have an Echo with a screen, you can change the location right on the device.

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap configurations (or say, Alexa, go to settings).

2. Press Device options.

Change the time on Alexa

Changing the time on your Echo device is tied directly to your location.

And while this means you obviously don't have to manually change the time every time you switch between time zones, it also means you can't change things if, for some reason, it malfunctions.

Again, remember that changing the location on one device will not change it on another. And if all else fails, and it simply refuses to show the right time, you can always restart your Amazon Echo.
