Z-wave: what it is and what it means for your smart home
If you're not a total techie, the world of smart home technology can sometimes be a little intimidating to navigate. We're here to break it down for you:
What is z-wave?
Z-wave is a wireless protocol that focuses on connectivity within the smart home. It uses low-energy radio waves to allow smart devices to communicate with each other. (For comparison, consider that the z-wave connectivity range is larger than Bluetooth, but smaller than Wi-Fi.)
How is z-wave connectivity different than Wi-Fi?
With Wi-Fi, everything has to be connected to a central hub, like a router. Z-wave connectivity, on the other hand, forms a mesh network. This means that all z-wave devices are linked.
Typically, there will be a central hub that connects to the internet, but all the devices themselves do not have Wi-Fi capability; instead, they use z-wave connectivity to talk to each other and to the Central Hub.
This source-routed mesh network topology has 232 nodes, which means you can connect 232 smart devices to the network.
How is Z wave different from Zigbee?
Basically, z-wave was designed to be simpler to use and less expensive than Zigbee.
Additionally, while z-wave and Zigbee mesh networks form networks, z-wave operates in a frequency range of 800-900 MHz, rather than Zigbee's 2,4 GHz frequency range. This means that z-wave has much less interference than Zigbee.
What does z-wave mean for your smart home?
Z-wave connectivity means you can easily build a smart home customized specifically for your needs.
All z-wave devices (of which there are more than 24.000) are completely compatible with each other, without exception. This means you have the flexibility to create a smart home network unique to your lifestyle.
Additionally, the new z-wave 700 series (announced at CES 2018) has a 100-meter range for point-to-point contact, so you can equip your home with smart devices, both inside and out. And, because this new platform operates at such low power, some sensors can operate for 10 years on a single battery.
Create your own z-wave smart home network. Start with a smart hub and add smart lighting, smart locks, smart sensors and more to make your home a Z-wave home. NEO Coolcam Z-WAVE NAS-WR01ZE EU Plug Smart Socket Home Automation Home Alarm System EU Version 868,4MHz Frequency The power plug is a smart device that can be controlled remotely by the Z-wave network which has a particular frequency. In Z-Wave network communications, the power plug can be connected to any Z-Wave main controller. different countries or areas. The radio frequency is different from the Z-wave network. In communication with the Z-Wave main controller, the power plug can send and receive messages. when you press the code button on the power plug. It will send messages to the main z-wave controller. The Z-Wave main controller can display the power plug on/off status correctly. When the power plug receives messages from the Z-Wave main controller, the on/off status of the power plug can be changed remotely via mobile phone APP. the power plug is small and light. very easy to operate

What does he do
Wireless Control Snapshot
Control lamps and small appliances wirelessly with your smartphone or laptop.
Efficient energy
Monitors power consumption in live mode or over time. Save on bills and enjoy a more efficient home.
Complete customization
Create your own schedules and events designed according to your needs. Use advanced settings to enable or disable manual control of the plug. Set the timer to turn off appliances automatically.
Simplest of
Installation is virtually instant, and a compact size gives full access to the second outlet in a standard receptacle.
Stronger connectivity
Z-wave Plus provides faster and more secure wireless connectivity. The built-in range extender ensures a stronger network.
If you have a z-wave Plus compatible controller you get an extra:
-Best rank
-Possibility of firmware update over the air
-Improved “healing”
-More bandwidth
Installation:
Will test the installation on the following drivers:
-Athom-friend
-Fibaro-HC2
-Zipata-ZipaTile
-Vera Plus
Friend:
To install this plug, log in to your home. Next, go to devices and click the (+). After this you have to install the Neo CoolCam app and find the power plug. The controller will now go into learning mode. After that it's a matter of plugging in the plug.
The plug was found perfectly. If it is not found immediately, this happens if you do not start the adding procedure quickly enough, you can click the button 3x fast. You get an on and off switch, power consumption and total consumption. So you don't see the voltage and current (A). Power consumption seems fine.
Options in the flow editor:
Zipato:
Adding to the ZipaTile is done by going to the dashboard and clicking Add. Then insert the plug between the socket and wait for it to be found. Then 1 time in and out to add it.
You will see an on/off switch on the dashboard. The gauges are all present too, they just had to be made visible. You get the promise: current power consumption (W), total consumption (kWh), voltage (V) and amps (A).
Power consumption is also in order, a 60 watt bulb gave a consumption of 63 watts

Rule creator options:
Fibaro HC2
Next up is the Fibaro HC2 Controller! Typically Fibaro is a little behind with support for new devices. We will see if this is the case.
Adding is done by placing the controller in the “Add” position and pressing the plug back into the socket. It is then added to HC2. It seems to me that it has been reported that there is no template available yet. Despite this, I clearly see on the dashboard an on/off switch, current power consumption, total consumption, voltage and current.
Installation
Vera Plus
As my last driver I tried the Vera Plus. Unfortunately I couldn't find the plug in the device list, but through “general z-wave” I managed to add it. On the dashboard I get an on/off switch and I see the consumption.

Default Setting: 255 (Remember Status)
Available configuration: 0 or 255
Automatically on/off setting (8):
You can set the plug to turn off automatically at a specific time.
Default Setting: 0 (off)
Available settings: 0 (off) or 1 (on)
Automatic on/off time setting (9):
The time the plug turns on or off automatically.
Default Setting: 150 (min)
Available setting: 1-65535 (min)
Conclusion:
On the tested controllers the plug on and off works fine. Also adding does not cause problems. So the support seems fine.
The plug feels and looks slightly less solid than competitors. Insertion and unplugging in particular is quite difficult. This doesn't have to be a problem in itself because you won't be taking it out every day. The price of €42,95 makes it very interesting among plugs because a comparable plug from Fibaro costs €64,95. 2000W is usually enough to operate most devices.
The z-wave Plus support is a nice bonus.

Came quickly! The package is universal, you can see wifi (tuya), zigbee and z-wave. But a label made it clear that it's just Z waves. No problem, I ordered it. works well with my home! The only downside: the first time I plugged it in, it knocked out power to the entire house :p.
