Aqara Updates Devices For HomeKit

Aqara updated a post on its website forum today, describing which platforms its devices use in an effort to clear things up, not only for new products coming to its Aqara ecosystem but also for products that were already with us, With this we see that they are updating devices so that they can be compatible with the HomeKit platform, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant / Nest.

Devices currently compatible with HomeKit:

  • Aqara Hub
  • Wireless Mini Switch, Wireless Remote Switch
  • Sensors – Door and Window | Motion | Temperature & Humidity | Vibration | Water Leak
  • LED Bulbs
  • Smart Plug US
  • Curtain Controller
  • Light Detection Sensor
  • Wall Switch / Wall Switch T1
  • Wireless Relay Controller (2 Channels)
  • Roller Shade Controller TA
  • Wall Switch (CN, 4 versions)
  • Wall Switch D1 1-2 buttons (CN, 4 versions)
  • Smart Plug T1 (EU)
  • Wall Switch (US, 4 versions)
  • Smart Door Lock HL

Future compatible:

  • M2 Hub/ M1S Hub
  • Camera Hub  G2H
  • Wall Switch D1 3 buttons (CN)
  • Single Switch Module T1 (2 versions)
  • Wall Switch (EU, 4 versions)

As you can see from the list above, the mention of the M1S HUB and EU wall switches is interesting, as Aqara had not previously talked about these products, even though one of them (M1S Hub) can be seen in the Aqara Home app. As for the EU changes, we previously hinted that Aqara could be working on such products, but we haven't had any confirmation from the firm until today. Aqara has told us that the four EU versions of the Aqara switches will be the same as the recently released US wall switches, so there are single- and double-push versions.

M1S Hub
Currently, little is officially known about the M1S, other than the fact that it looks identical (at least in the app) to the current Aqara hub. What could improve, compared to the hub that is available now, is the Zigbee 3.0 functionality. While the Aqara Hub can work with Zigbee 3.0 devices, it can't take advantage of the improvements that Zigbee 3.0 brings over the previous iteration. It may support other features that the current hub doesn't, but we can't say for sure at this time.

wall switches
While the Chinese Aqara wall switches are the correct size (86 x 86mm) to work with EU homes, the gaps are slightly different, as EU switches require the back section to be more rounded, something that The Chinese models do not fully comply. Chinese switches would probably not have the required safety certification, so a dedicated set of EU switches would be very welcome.

D1 3 Button Wall Switch
The newly launched and updated Aqara wall switches, suitable for China, come in one, two and three rocker variants, but as some have already found, the three rocker version is not exposed to HomeKit, so according to the publication, HomeKit support for this change is due at some point.

The G2H HomeKit camera is already mentioned, but as we've known about this camera for a while, there's not much more to say about it, until it's released. This is also the case with the Aqara M2 Hub, which we have documented extensively in previous posts. It is also mentioned that the Aqara light sensor checks our recording, which we published a while ago, when it briefly appeared in the list of available devices in the Mi Home app, before disappearing shortly after. There's a good chance this is almost identical to the currently available Mi light sensor, which uses Zigbee 3.0 and can currently work with the Aqara hub, although not officially.
